The Seventh Sunday after Pentecost

July 7, 2024

Sunday Schedule:

9:30am Mass with Hymns (Live-streamed)

Announcements This Week:

Special announcement about communion:

As always, all baptized Christians are welcomed to receive communion in this church; however, lately what happens at the altar rail has become increasingly confusing for everyone involved, so it may be helpful to clarify how to receive so that we can avoid some traffic jams and confusing situations. Please as you come forward to the rail, fill in empty spaces from right to left, but please, please, please WAIT until the chalice passes by before you jump into an empty space! Please DO NOT “fill in” a space unless the chalice bearer as already passed by. Some people received only the bread, and some receive the bread and the wine. Either is fine, but sometimes people are filling in empty spaces next to people who are still waiting to receive wine and this is making it very difficult for the clergy and altar servers to keep track of who is waiting for what. As you come forward, please just make sure that the person carrying the chalice has passed by before you fill in an empty space.

Front Step Repair/Tuesday Club

Beginning Monday, July 8, the front steps of the church will be undergoing repair and refurbishment. This repair should be completed by the end of the week and should not interfere with mass next weekend. However, the Tuesday Club will meet in the parish hall on Tuesday, July 9.

St. John’s ICare Foundation Buy a Backpack Program

We are once again participating in the St. John’s ICare Foundation’s Back-to-School Wellness Event to provide school supplies for children in need. Please donate a minimum of $15 to purchase one backpack or you can be as generous as your budget permits. Our goal is to be a Sponsor by collecting $1,000. The name of our church will be displayed on a sign at the distribution event in August and will also appear on sponsor banners, event-related print, and digital marketing material.

Please place your donation of cash or a check made out to: The Church of the Ascension in an envelope clearly marked “Backpacks”. You can place it in the collection plate on Sundays, mail it to the church, or hand it directly to Judi Broadhurst. All donations need to be made by Sunday, August 4th.
