Stewardship Season
We have sent out letters to the parish asking everyone to prayerfully reflect on what God is calling you to give to the life and ministry of the Church of the Ascension in the coming year. Sacrificial giving is an act of worship that has been tied to prayer from the beginning. We give not just because the church needs money to operate, but more importantly we give as an act of faith and thanksgiving to the God who has given us so much. Please consider what God is calling you to give in the coming year. The cards should be returned today, November 26th, where they will be blessed during the mass.
Toy Drive for St. John’s ICARE Foundation
Please donate new, unwrapped gender-neutral toys for children ages 6 months to 12 years by Sunday December 10th.
Advent Quiet Day at Ascension
The Diocesan Altar Guild invites everyone to participate in their Advent Quiet Day on Saturday, December 9thhere at Ascension. Father Matt will be leading us in a day of rest, fellowship, reflection and prayer as we prepare a home for Jesus. The day begins at 9:30 am and runs until 2:30 pm. You may bring a brown bag lunch or purchase a catered box lunch for $20 which is paid for in advance. Please register by December 5th by returning the registration forms. If you wish to purchase the catered lunch please enclose a check made out the ‘Altar Guild, Diocese of LI’ with your registration form. Forms are located in the parish hall or speak to Margaret. Tuesday Club
The next meeting of the Tuesday Club will take place this Tuesday, November 28th at 11:00 am. We will continue studying “The Path” which is an abbreviated version of the Bible. Copies are available for $20.
Children's Christmas Pageant
This year we will have our annual Christmas Pageant during the 10:30am service on Sunday, December 17th. We will have rehearsals starting today, November 26th, then on Sunday, December 3rd and 10th following the service. If you wish to participate, please speak with Lisa Chiara.
Bell Anniversary
The Bell which rings from our church steeple is now 150 years old. It was cast in the year 1873 in Troy, New York, by the Meneely Bell Company. The bell is 39 inches in diameter, weighs 1,215 pounds and was toned to the note of A-flat.
Donations for Pink Roses due December 17th
December 17th is Gaudete (Rose) Sunday. We are looking for six parishioners who would be interested in giving a memorial donation in the amount of $55 to defray the cost of the pink roses that will adorn the High Altar, Advent wreath and small vase in the chapel that day. If you are interested in donating, please bring your donation to Margaret in the church office or mail by December 10th . You may use the Christmas flower form but please write ‘Roses” on the top of the form. Please include how you would like the memorial to read in the bulletin.
Book Discussion
Today we will begin discussing the book Orthodoxy by G. K. Chesterton. Meetings will be at 9am on Sunday mornings
Christmas Memorial Flowers
Flower memorial gifts for Christmas are being accepted now through Sunday, December 17th . Please make sureyour donation is clearly marked “Christmas Flowers” and please be sure to clearly list the names of the individuals you would like remembered. Envelopes and/or forms are available in the back of the church and in the Parish Hall. Please return them to the Parish Office or leave them in the Parish Office mailbox outside of Fr. Kevin’s office or give them to Margaret Bianchi.
Coffee Hour Volunteers Needed
Hello everyone! Thank you to all who have helped make coffee hour a success so far this year! Please consider hosting or contributing a homemade baked good for all to share. Don’t Forget to Shop at ‘The Shop’
The holidays are almost here and ‘The Shop’ at Ascension offers a unique showcase of gifts, vintage items, crafts, antiques, china and seasonal decor. The shop is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11am to 5pm. The shop is staffed by volunteers and all proceeds benefit the church.
